DASH ID or C-U MTD Bus Pass FAQs


Q - How do I qualify for a Champaign Urbana MTD "bus pass"?
A - To qualify for the DASH ID (otherwise known as a "disability bus pass") to ride the fixed route bus, you must have written documentation of your disability from an official source that would have verified your disability previously such as: Social Security, your doctor, your mental health counselor, or ITAC. If you are applying for the DASH ID, to ride the fixed route bus, the documentation you possess must specifically state what disability you have. To qualify for MTD's other program, the DASH ID with ADA status, you must be unable to ride the regular fixed-route MTD bus (meaning you are unable to board, ride, or disembark from any accessible vehicle on the fixed-route bus system without the assistance of another individual -- excluding the operator of a wheelchair lift or other boarding assistance device.)

Q - What steps do I need to take to get a DASH ID?
A - If you are making an application to ride the MTD fixed-route bus, once you have gathered your proof of disability, call the MTD Disability Verifier at PACE at (217) 344-5433 (voice) or (217) 344-5024 (TTY), and request an appointment to complete the application for the MTD DASH ID. After completing the application, you must turn in your certification at the Illinois Terminal and have your picture taken. If your application is approved you will receive a MTD DASH ID within 7-10 days of submitting your application.

Q - What actions do I need to take to get a DASH ID with ADA status?
A - If you are making an application to ride the MTD Paratransit Van, once you have gathered your proof of disability, call the MTD Disability Verifier at PACE at (217) 344-5433, and request an appointment to complete the application for the DASH ID with ADA status. Request that a ADA Eligibility Application for a DASH ID with ADA status be mailed to you. After completing the application, you must mail or deliver your application to 1101 E. University Avenue, Urbana, IL 61802. If your application is approved you will receive a DASH ID with ADA status.

Q - Can I request that a Personal Assistant would be able to ride with me?
A - Yes, if your application is reviewed by MTD, and the reviewer has significant evidence that you need a Personal Assistant to accommodate your transportation, you may be deemed eligible to have a Personal Assistant ride with you as a reasonable accommodation for your disability.

Q - Are there other programs that I would qualify for if I receive a DASH ID or the DASH ID with ADA status?
A - Yes, if you receive a DASH ID or the DASH ID with ADA status, you will also qualify for the MTD Half-Fare Cab Program. The MTD Half-Fare Cab Program is a supplementary transportation program whereby individuals with disabilities and seniors may utilize participating local cab companies services, and MTD will pay half of the fare.
